A tragic incident unfolded in Area 36 on the evening of October 29, when a domestic dispute ended with the death of a man allegedly beaten by his teenage son while defending his mother.
According to multiple neighbors interviewed, the 35-year-old husband arrived home late and visibly intoxicated around 7:30 PM. Eyewitnesses reported that shortly after entering his house, Banda began physically assaulting his wife, continuing a pattern of violent behavior fueled by alcohol. Residents say this was not the first time the husband, apparently frustrated from work, had unleashed his anger on Susan.
In a confrontation that escalated quickly, the couple’s son Chimwemwe, aged 16, intervened to protect his mother. Sources close to the scene indicate that in the struggle, the man suffered fatal injuries. The boy fled the home the following morning and has yet to be located.
Police confirmed the ongoing manhunt, “We are actively searching for the Chimwemwe. We appeal to anyone with information to assist us in locating him to ensure his safety and to facilitate a thorough investigation.”
Residents described a tense atmosphere in the neighborhood following the incident. One neighbor, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “We heard voices, shouting and sounds of a fight before midnight. It’s heartbreaking because this family has been struggling for some time.”
Local authorities have yet to confirm formal charges as investigations continue. The community and police remain on alert, hoping for a swift resolution to the case.
The police urge residents of Lilongwe, especially those in Area 36, to report any relevant information immediately to local law enforcement offices.
This event underscores the urgent need for interventions to address domestic violence and support vulnerable families.
