A 2026 World Cup Qualifiers match between Malawi and Namibia at Bingu National Stadium on March 20, 2025, was marred by an unsavory incident.
Despite Namibia's 1-0 victory, courtesy of Prince Tjiueza's 40th-minute goal, the match was overshadowed by a scuffle between players from both teams.
The altercation, which was quickly diffused by teammates from both sides, was sparked by a misunderstanding. A Namibian player had attempted to compliment a Malawi player on a great game, but the gesture was misinterpreted.
Malawi Flames Coach Kalisto Pasuwa strongly condemned the behavior of his player, expressing embarrassment at their inability to accept defeat graciously.
Pasuwa's team suffered a narrow defeat, with Namibia taking their tally to 11 points, two points behind group leaders Tunisia.
The incident has raised concerns about the conduct of Malawi's players, and sports enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting Pasuwa's decision on the matter. The team's next match is against Tunisia on March 24.
